  1) What year was the advert produced? the OMO advert  was produced in the year 1955. 2) How were women represented in most adverts in the 1950s? Add as much detail to this answer as you can as these are the social, cultural and historical contexts we will need to write about in the exam. women in the 1950s were represented as wholly housewives who should be happy when doing there job. an example of this the OMO advert, where the central image is a women doing laundry and wearing makeup which is very stereotypical and gives an expectation of what women should look like and how they should act. 3) How does the heading message ('OMO makes whites bright') and the style of the text promote the product? the style of writing promotes the product because it looks like breaking news announcing something important. 4) Analyse the mise-en-scene in the advert (CLAMPS): how is costume, make-up and placement of the model used to suggest women's role in society? the makeup of the actor

  1) What  key conventions  of print adverts can you find and what are the  connotations  or deeper meanings of each convention?  For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do in the image there is a central image which is also the product image also there is a slogan "taste the rainbow" there is imperative  also with the slogan "taste the rainbow" not giving the reader a choice. they have also established brand identity by putting a packet of skittles in the middle, it is very iconic and recognisable. the reason why they set the advert in the sky with a rainbow made from skittles in the background is because they are trying to communicate to the audience that the taste of skittles is like nothing else.
