Introduction to advertising: blog task

1) What key conventions of print adverts can you find and what are the connotations or deeper meanings of each convention? For each convention, write about how it communicates meaning to the audience. See the Maltesers advert above for an example of how to do

in the image there is a central image which is also the product image also there is a slogan "taste the rainbow"
there is imperative also with the slogan "taste the rainbow" not giving the reader a choice. they have also established brand identity by putting a packet of skittles in the middle, it is very iconic and recognisable.

the reason why they set the advert in the sky with a rainbow made from skittles in the background is because they are trying to communicate to the audience that the taste of skittles is like nothing else. They imply  that the taste of skittles is original and is what a rainbow would taste like.

2) What is the USP (unique selling point) for Skittles and how do you know? Does the advert use any of persuasive techniques listed above?

The unique selling point of skittles is the fact that the taste is original as said on the packaging ("original fruit")
the advert uses persuasive techniques such as a slogan, a theme and they established brand identity with the slogan.
