the preferred reading of His dark materials is wanting the reader to think that the tv show is a good adaptation of the books and of course they want the viewer invested. On the other hand the oppositional reading would be to think that the show deviates too far from the books and how there was "not enough magic"

I think  that Vicarious and Voyeuristic can be applied to the episode this is because of the nature of the show. for example we are able to watch things that don't  happen in our lives such as adventuring through different world or any such thing.

4) How did fans react to Season 2 of His Dark Materials? What about critic reviews? You can find some possible answers for this in this BBC website article on the critical reception for His Dark Materials and watch the fan reaction video above.

"It looks great, it's robustly made, and there are great actors everywhere, occupying well-built universes." we can infer that at least some people did have positive thoughts on the show. Furthermore, there were 4.4million people watching on average so many people stayed for the show considering how this is the second season the show certainly has its fans but it also has its fair share of critiques. such as: "The daemons never quite replicate the humour and self-doubt they convey in the books. It's a missed opportunity" some older fans who read the books think that there are missed opportunities by deviating from the books.

5) What might be some of the preferred and oppositional readings for His Dark Materials? Why did some fans love it? Why have other people criticised it?

a preferred reading of the show might be that the universe is well built as well as the casting being great. However, a oppositional reading  could be that the series deviates too much from the book and with that there are missed opportunities.
